Jubiliation in Osun State as the Supreme Court on Tuesday May 9, 2023, confirmed Senator Ademola Adeleke as the authentic governor of the state.
The judgement of the five-member panel therefore ended Adegboyega Oyetola’s optimism of retaining power as the state governor after the July 16, 2022 governorship election.
It also upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja which had earlier on 24 March 24, 2023, affirmed Adeleke’s victory.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Mr Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the election in an upset that deprived Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) a second term in office.

Upholding Adeleke’s victory, the Court of Appeal in Abuja held that the tribunal was wrong in its conclusion that that the election in some parts of the state was marred by over-voting, the pivotal legal issue on which Mr Oyetola built his case.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some of its governors have congratulated Adeleke for the victory via Twitter handle, @OfficialPDPNig.
