First time legislator and former Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affair in Niger State, Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, has emerged as Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly.
Sarkin-Daji, representing Mariga constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged as the Speaker after the March 18, 2023 election, to preside over the affairs of the 10th Niger State House of Assembly for the next four years.
Sarkin-Daji, a legal practitioner, was nominated by Mohammed Haruna (APC-Bida 11), a motion seconded by Abdulrahman Gambo (APC-Borgu), while Afiniki Dauda (APC-Gurara) also emerged as the first female Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly.

Dauda was nominated by Umar Nasir (APC-Paiko) and was seconded by Bello Bako (APC-Rijau) and the Clerk of the Assembly Abdullahi Kagara, subsequently administered the Oath of Office and Allegiance on her and the Speaker.
The Speaker, after their inauguration, which took place at the Usman Jikantoro House of Assembly complex, Minna, announced the House’s Principal Officers as recommended and approved by the APC in Niger State.
Idris Musa Vatsa (APC-Lapai) is to serve as the House Majority Leader, Mohammed Abubakar (APC-Chanchaga) as the Chief Whip while Mohammed Garba (APC-Agwara) is to serve as Deputy Majority Leader of the House.
Also, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved, Andrew Doma (PDP-Shiroro), as Minority Leader and Ndagi Zakari (PDP-Mokwa) as Deputy Minority Leader of the House.
