Commissioner for Health in Ebonyi State, Dr. Moses Ekuma, confirmed the outbreak of Lassa Fever in the state, saying that the state epidemiologist and other health personnels are untop the outbreak

Lassa fever has killed a female medical personnel while trying to rescue patients infected with the fever at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (AE—FUTHA), Ebonyi State.
It was gathered that the medical personnel whose name was giving as Ewogu Nkechi, a nurse from Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki contracted it and died at the weekend.
Sources, who confirmed the incident at the hospital, told Nigeria News Flight that she was buried immediately according to Lassa fever control protocol.
She was a staff of the Federal Hospital and had worked at the Emergency Department of AE-FUTHA since December 2019.
She was a graduate of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki and hailed from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

When contacted, the Commissioner for Health in Ebonyi State, Dr. Moses Ekuma, confirmed the outbreak of Lassa Fever in the state, saying that the state epidemiologist and other health personnels are untop the outbreak.
“Actually, there is outbreak of Lassa Fever. It is not only in Ebonyi State. It affected other places more especially those areas that are prone to it. The state epidemiologist and other health team are on top of it to ensure its prevention and control,” he said.
