Lookman’s hat-trick wins UEFA Europa Cup for Atalanta

Nigeria’s international and Atalanta of Italy forward, Ademola Lookman, has made history by breaking Bayer Leverkusen’s 51 unbeaten run in the season with a hat-trick that secured the first trophy (UEFA Europa League Cup) for the Italian club in 61 years in Dublin, Irelandon Wednesday May 22, 2024.

 With the feat, Lookman, who won the man-of-the-match award, became the first African footballer to score a hat-trick in any final match in European football competition.

His success in the European competions coupled with his brilliant performance in the last edition of the African Nations Cup has put him in a better position to dethrone his compatriot, Victor Osimhen, as African Football King.

Lookman, who thrilled fans with his mesmerizing runs down the left flank, opened scoring in the 12th minute from Zappacosta’s angled ball.

Lookman, who brought 66-year-old coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, the first major trophy of his long career, made it two in the 26th mumite.

In the 75′, Lookman completed the hat-trick after intercepting a pass from Scamacca.

He is set to join other Super Eagles players for the World Cup preparation against South Africa and Benin Republic next month.
