‘…people get tired sometimes to go and vote and accept the result if they see that it is not free and fair’
Former Military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubarkar, and former Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, have blamed low turnout of voters in the Governorship and State House of Assembly election on the outcome of last month’s Presidential and National Assembly election.
Both personalities spoke on the heels of the general voters’ apathy witnessed in the March 18, 2023 Governorship and State House of Assembly election, insisting that the outcome of February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly election caused the low turnout.
Former head of state, Abdulsalami, who however said he had not gone out to monitor the exercise, which was generally peaceful, spoke to journalists at his hilltop residence.

Abdulsalami, who is the chairman of National Peace Committee, said, “I cannot comment on the low turnout because I haven’t gone round. But then this is expected because people get tired sometimes to go and vote and accept the result if they see that it is not free and fair”.
