Super Eagles of Nigeria have qualified for the quarter final in the ongoing African Nations Cup (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire with a 2-0 defeat of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Saturday January 28, 2024.

The Atalanta of Italy striker, Ademola Lukman, scored both goals in the 38th and 90th minutes, with assist from Victor Osimhen and Kelvin Bassey, respectively.

The Super Eagles showed their superiority over the Lions in the sixth minute of the game when Seyi Ajayi struck via Victor Moses’ cross but was ruled offside by VAR.

The VAR decision did not deter the Nigerian side, which kept pressing the Cameroonians, with their energetic brand of football that caged the Lions.

However, few efforts by the Lions at the Super Eagles half were rebuffed by the Nigerian organized defence and keeper, Stanley Nwabani, who was pulled out after being injured by Christopher Woef in the 76th minute.

Nwabali was substituted by Francis Uzoho.

With the result, Nigeria will meet Angola in the quarter final. Earlier on Saturday, Angola defeated Namibia 3-0 to meet Nigeria in the quarter final.
