Amunike takes over from Paseiro

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed ex-international, Mr. Emmanuel Amunike, as the Super Eagles’ new chief coach.

This was coming on the heels of non-renewal of the contract of the Portuguese Jose Paseiro, who led the silver-winning Super Eagles in the last edition of Africa’s Nations Cup in Cote d’Ivoire.

NFF made the official announcement on Sunday April 21, 2024, after scrutinizing the report of the Technical Committee, which conducted the interview in London, recently.

Amunike is not new in Nigerian football. Having started his professional career with the former Lagos-based Julius Berger, Amunike went on to play for Zamalek of Egypt before ending up in Barcelona FC in Spain.

Amunike was also the first manager, who qualified and led Tanzania to the Nations Cup.

Amunike also led the World Cup-winning Golden Eaglets, which featured the likes of Victor Osimhen and Chukwueze. His first assignment is to lead the Super Eagles in a World Cup qualifying against Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
