DUFUTH management seeks increment in budgetary allocation

National Assembly members have said that the digital medical facilities in the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, Ebonyi State, were enough to boost medical tourism in Nigeria.
The lawmakers also commended the hospital management for ensuring that it could compete with other health institutions locally and internationally because of its state-of-the-art medical facilities.
The federal lawmakers, led by the Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Health Institution, Hon. Amose Magaji, visited the facility as part of their oversight functions, recently.
Magaji promised to assist the management of the hospital to tackle some of its challenges.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Uzoma Agwu, had appealed to the National Assembly for increment in budgetary allocation of the hospital to maintain World-Class standards on human and material resources.

Agwu, while lauding the lawmakers’ visit, expressed confidence that the engagement with them would produce results on increased budgetary allocation and provision of more quality personnel for the smooth running of the hospital.
She further disclosed that DUFUTH had continued to expand its scope of services to other specialties and had been committed to providing a training ground for undergraduate and post-graduate students, ensuring both oversight and education to health professionals in various branches of the health and medical professions through learning and research.
Agwu, however, lamented that the absence of steady water supply source, epileptic power supply from public energy, minimal budgetary allocation, among others constitute the institution’s challenges and appealed to the National Assembly and federal government of Nigeria for their interventions and support.
Some of the facilities inspected by the lawmakers include: CT scan suite, MRI suite, Radiology Department, Cancer Centre, Eye Centre, Chemical Pathology Call Room, Anatomic Pathology Research Laboratory, Microbiology /Parasitology, Immunology, Clinical Microbiology Research laboratory, Well woman clinic, library, among others.
