‘Participants demonstrated understanding of the issues identified in the sources of conflict and strategies and models for conflict resolution’

Bauchi State-based Attah Sisters Helping Hand Foundation (ASHHF) has established and trained 25 Community mediators on conflict resolution in Kafin Madaki Community of Ganjuwa council and Miri Community of Bauchi council of the state.
The trainings were held simultaneously at the two communities of Miri and Kafin Madaki for days recently and facilitated by two facilitators.
Mr. Linus Bishams, who trained the mediators in Miri Community, said that the objective of the training was for the mediators to understand the concept of peace education.
“To understand the dynamics of the transformation of violence and to understand the nature of conflict and their resolution.
“To imbibe the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to achieve and sustain a global culture of peace in their communities as well as to establish 50 community peace mediators for conflict resolution and mediators.”
According to thim, the mediators were trained on the sources of conflict, types of conflict, strategies for conflict resolution and models for conflict resolution.
“Participants demonstrated understanding of the issues identified in the sources of conflict and strategies and models for conflict resolution.”
On peace building and mediation, Bishams said that the methods of building peace were discussed and participants demonstrated understanding of the concept of peace building and the importance of meditating for peace in their communities.
He said during the training, exercises and role plays were observed to build more understanding of the subject of discussion.
Hajiya Jamila Sule, who trained the mediators at Kafin Madaki Community, said that they accessed the knowledge of the participants by asking what they understood by peace and conflict,
“The response received shows that the participant had a good knowledge on the topic. The facilitator did justice in making sure that the following topics were broken down for all participants to understand the concepts.
“The issues identified in the sources of conflict, strategies and models for conflict resolution.
“A class work on the causes of conflict in their community was given to the participants; some of the causes mentioned were lack of education and unemployment which makes the youth vulnerable to the politicians for thuggery.
“Lack of proper home training by the parents, emphasis was paid on peace building and mediation,” Sule said.
