Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Taraba State chapter, has elected Janet Nyajon Audu as chairperson.
Janet, the Taraba State Correspondent of Daily Independent newspapers, was declared winner after a keenly-contested election held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, on Tuesday February 11, 2025.
Electoral Committee Chairperson, Mrs. Elizabeth Usen Smith of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Jalingo, confirmed the election result to Nigeria News Flight.
She said that prior to the polls, four seats were vacant.
Of them, the position of Chairperson was contested for while the other three had candidates who were returned unopposed.
Smith further disclosed that Janet polled a total of 52 votes, while her only opponent, Mrs. Rautha Umar of Taraba Television (TTV), garnered nine votes.
Smith, who described the election as credible, free and fair, advised the new officials to operate an open door policy with a view to carrying all members along.

She called on members to support the officials throughout their three-year tenure to enable them succeed.
The electoral committee boss added that since only four positions were contested for, it was expected that within three months, the new officials would arrange for a bye-election to fill other vacant positions to have a complete executive.
In her acceptance speech, Janet lauded his colleagues for handing her the responsibility to serve them.
Pledging not to betray the confidence reposed in her, Janet promised that the welfare of members would not be compromised under her stewardship.
Her words: “My executive will partner with the Office of the First Lady of the state, Mrs. Agym Agbu Kefas, to enhance the welfare of members.
“I will also partner with NGOs towards organizing workshops for training and retraining of members, which is one of my priorities.”
In a remark, the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, represented by the Zonal Vice President, Comrade Dorcas Philemon, urged the women journalists to avoid living rancorous lives.
