Villagers reject Politician, seek due process
‘We have not chosen our traditional ruler, we are still mourning our traditional ruler who died a year ago. We don’t want trouble, we want peace in Nkomoro community’

The people of Nkomoro, Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, have staged a peaceful protest in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, to express disappointed over the bid to install an unpopular traditional ruler against their will.
They also called on Governor Francis Nwifuru and security agencies to interven to avoid violent crisis.
The peaceful protesters moved to different parts of Abakaliki on Wednesday to express their greivances over the Ezeship stool, alleging that both internal and external forces had concluded plans to impose a politician in the community as their traditional ruler.

The taditional Prime Minister of the community, Mr. Livinus Eze, during the protest, said, “We are hearing that one of our illustrious son, Jacob Nwakpa has been made traditional ruler of our community.
“We are surprised to here this because there are processes that must be followed before a traditional ruler emerges in the community and those processes were not followed.
“We have eight kindreds in the community and each of the kindreds must bring four persons who will nominate who will be a traditional ruler in our community.
“When these kindreds nominate the traditional ruler, they will bring the person to the entire community for approval. This is how it is done in our community and not what some selfish and greedy politicians want.
“We are hearing on radio that a traditional ruler has been choosen in our community and that he will be coronated on Saturday this week. This is why we are protesting against it. The right thing must be followed and that is what we want.

While addressing the protesters in his office, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Uchenna Igwe, pledged to ensure that due process was followed in the installation of the royal father in the community.
