‘The meeting came amid the controversy and protests trailing the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit known as petrol’

President Bola Tinubu has met with Nigeria’s major oil marketers at Aso Rock, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Wednesday.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, who was the chairman of the Oil Marketers Association, led the group at the meeting, which details are not yet made public.

But sources said that the meeting was not unconnected with the recent petrol subsidy removal by the federal government.

Recall that the meeting came amid the controversy and protests trailing the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit known as petrol.

The president, during his inaugural speech at the Eagle Square in Abuja on May 29, 2023,  announced the removal of subsidy payment on petrol.

He further disclosed that the immediate past administration of Muhammadu Buhari did not make provisions for subsidy in the 2023 budget beyond June.

Already, a litre of petrol is being sold at over N500 across the country following NNPC price adjustment and the presidential pronouncement on subsidy removal. valoa2000@yahoo.com
